Guides/Dining/London's Finest Restaurants

The Edit

There is no shortage of good restaurants in London. Truly memorable ones are far rarer. Some are celebrated institutions; others remain quietly exceptional. This guide brings together the restaurants we continue to recommend without hesitation — places that consistently deliver outstanding food, thoughtful service and an atmosphere worth returning for.

01

Langosteria

Mayfair·

Milan's most celebrated seafood restaurant arrived in London and immediately felt as though it had always been here. The room is effortlessly beautiful, the service impeccable, and the cooking — rooted in the finest Italian coastal tradition — is some of the most pleasurable in the city.

  • Linguini with blue lobster — the dish to order
  • Stracciatella gelato to finish
  • One of the most beautiful dining rooms in London

The verdict

The most elegant Italian in the city, and one of the finest rooms full stop.

02

The Garden at Corinthia

Mayfair·

One of London's best-kept secrets. Tucked within the Corinthia Hotel, The Garden operates a seasonally changing menu that rewards those who return across the year. The cooking is quietly confident, the setting genuinely beautiful — and the pear bellinis are, without question, the best in the city.

  • A seasonally evolving menu of genuine ambition
  • The pear bellini — order one immediately
  • A hidden setting that feels entirely removed from the city

The verdict

A hidden gem that deserves to be far better known.

03

Kyubi at The Arts Club

Mayfair·

Nestled within The Arts Club on Dover Street, Kyubi brings a precise and considered Japanese menu to one of London's most distinguished addresses. The wagyu kyubites are exceptional — tender, deeply flavoured, and worth the visit alone. The chocolate fondant is one of the better endings to a meal in Mayfair.

  • Wagyu kyubites — the standout dish
  • Chocolate fondant of genuine quality
  • The intimacy of dining within one of London's finest clubs

The verdict

Japanese cooking at its most considered, in a room that earns its reputation.

04

The Dover

Mayfair·

The Dover has quietly become one of the most reliable rooms in Mayfair. The Dover sole — prepared with the simplicity it deserves — is as good as anywhere in the city. The burger, which appears on the bar menu, is the best in London. Neither statement is made lightly.

  • The Dover sole — the definitive version
  • The burger — the best in London
  • A room that manages to feel both relaxed and genuinely special

The verdict

Mayfair at its most quietly confident.

05

Kioku

Mayfair·

Perched atop The OWO on Whitehall, Kioku is among the most accomplished Japanese restaurants to open in London in recent years. The akami and chutoro tartare is a study in restraint and precision. The kikicha crème brûlée is one of the most original desserts in the city. And the black cod — lacquered, yielding, deeply flavoured — is simply the best in London.

  • Akami & chutoro tartare — exceptional precision
  • Kikicha crème brûlée — a genuinely original dessert
  • The black cod — the best in London

The verdict

The finest Japanese restaurant in London. The black cod alone justifies the visit.
